Selecting the Correct Zinc Plated Sleeve Anchor

Zinc plated sleeve anchors provide a full 360° hole contact over a large area to help reduce concrete stress. The sleeve design of these concrete anchors improves holding power and work in any depth of hole so they can be used in a wide variety of projects. However, the spacing between sleeve anchors during installation is also important to consider. Once the correct size and spacing requirements are determined, the installation of these anchors can be completed. As with any anchoring or construction project, it is important to carefully follow installation and safety instructions.

Sleeve Anchor – Zinc Plated - Spacing:
If the anchors are installed too close together an interaction of forces between them may cause reduced holding power. A rule of thumb in the expansion anchor industry is that a minimum of ten (10) anchor diameters should be between any two anchors and there should be five (5) anchor diameters from an unsupported edge.   When vibration or sudden impact is part of the load conditions, this spacing should be increased.

How to Determine the Length of Zinc Plated Sleeve Anchors:
The length of the zinc plated sleeve anchor should equal minimum embedment, plus the thickness of the fixture. The nut and washer do not need to be added in. The length of the sleeve anchor is measured from under the head, or under the nut and washer. The sleeve anchor requires no maximum hole depth. The depth of the hole in the base material should be at least the length of the anchor’s embedment into the base material plus ½”. This will provide extra depth to accommodate a minor amount of concrete cuttings which might not be able to be cleaned out of the hole.
